Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that corrects the imbalance of chemicals in the brain and is prescribed for patients suffering from depression, anxiety disorder that lasts for longer than 6 months, diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia. If you are 24 or younger your doctor will monitor your condition closely during the first several weeks of the treatment. This is required to make sure you do not develop serious side effects sometimes reported by patients from this age group. If you notice any signs of your condition getting worse report them to your health care provider immediately. Such symptoms can include thoughts about hurting yourself, worsening symptoms of depression, agitation, irritability, trouble falling asleep, abnormal excitement, restlessness and other symptoms of the kind.

The capsule should be swallowed whole. You are not supposed to crush it or mix with any other liquids. Do not stop the treatment until you have discussed it with your doctor. Gradual withdrawal is recommended as otherwise you are likely to experience such symptoms as anxiety, tiredness, dizziness, headache, numbness or tingling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and irritability. Some of the side effects you can have when taking this drug include stomach pain, difficulty urinating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, dry mouth, weakness, heartburn, decreased appetite and drowsiness. If these side effects persist, talk to your health care provider about a dose adjustment.
