Life of an Amatuer Journalist pt.2

November 17, 2008

Today we shot our first interview for the news story project. We got a teacher to come down and talk with us a bit about Barack Obama, the election, and the post-election. I operated the camera while Charlie did the interview. It was the best conversation I have ever heard about the elections. Our news segment is supposed to be about 90 seconds. The interview was 15 minutes long, but I love it when we have an abundance of footage. It just ensures that you will get the very best of your footage when you have to dig through it all.

I will post the project when it is finished, and maybe I’ll throw up the entire interview also.

Life of an Amateur Journalist pt.1

My next school project is a news story. My partner, Charlie, and I are interviewing teachers this week on the following:

What they think about where we are at right now with the bailout, the amount of borrowing and debt, the election and the media, and the “global cop” status of America

Then what they think the future holds. What kind of change is coming and is this younger generation too uneducated.

This is pretty intense for me right now. Charlie came up with this topic, because Lord knows I don’t know ass-diddly-doo about this subject. We are hoping for some crazy interviews, where people start yelling and slamming fists on the tables. Then slap the closest person in a fit of rage.

I’m in the middle of trying to convince a professor, that I had for a couple writing courses, to do an interview. One day he came to class very pissed off at the government and tossed desks at the students, and that is the passion we are looking for.

We start shooting and interviewing tomorrow. I wanna see some mud ‘n blood thrown.
